I always like to say, "The proof is in the (fig) pudding", so let's journey together and discover how to grow, care for, protect, and love your wonderful fig trees, and other fruits, berries, and vegetables. Welcome to my channel! Lou Monti

For certain regions of the country, or if you have extra space, Brunswick is an excellent tasting and extremely prolific fig variety! For Northern growers, it should be noted that Brunswick is also one of the winter hardiest of fig varieties. Infamous for its splitting and cracking during periods of rainy weather, Brunswick, if it's dry during the harvest, can be quite an interesting and deligh...

My wife made some cupcakes, using figs and walnuts. They were delicious. Also, I’m new to growing figs. I tasted my first spoiled one today not good.
Also there is a dude on youtube in florida who has a giant 15 foot tall fig tree his son climbs to pick figs , even if his channel isnt big or fancy dude is doing somthing right with that fig tree and we can all probably learn somthing.
So what rootstocks can we graft onto for nematode resistance ? Im going to look into it , even if it not common knowledge there is probably a solution , i know for instance that people graft onto the gully bean tree to grow nightshades in florida off season, i would he suprised if nothing compatible is highly resistance to nematodes
I wish your wife would let you grow your figs are you see fit.
Hi Lou, I was wondering how old you are. I'm 76 and in good health. I sometimes wonder if I have time left to do things like propagation with cuttings or just buy the plant.
I had some opposite experience with Pastiliere. It dropped fruits and didn't grow much, but when I put it in ground, it was all of a sudden super happy and grow vigorously and ripened every single fruit it put out.
it is remarkable how resilient these figs are..it's funny i put a RDB in ground about a month ago..blazing hot, but it was evening and cool..since then, it's grown 5"-6"..popped figlets all over..i believe it felt relieved to get out of the pot and into the earth!
Beautiful trees! Would love to see another persimmon update. I planted a yates this year. Would love to see more of your Nakita’s Gift
@michaelscrivana1165 Hi Michael. I have posted several videos that feature Nikita's Gift. You are certainly welcome to view them. To me, after a lifetime of growing quite a few persimmon varieties, it's one of my absolute favorites! Thanks for watching! Lou Monti
@@loumonti10 thanks Lou! I will check them out. I have a young NG and hoping to get a taste this year
Best wishes to Betty, my wife is totally my better half too.
You have created a little piece of heaven! I love your videos.
I love the cutting garden recommendations. I gave it a try and most of my cuttings are doing very well using that method. :)
Hello Lou Some new varieties out there, have no glue how good they are and people willing to pay very high price for them. Example the new one name Anglelito cost ton of money but it splits badly 😂
Hi Lou! Thanks for your pruning tips...they make much more sense than others! One day when I'm able to have more gardening room, I plan to get a Celeste and Peter's Honey!! Thanks for sharing...loved the humming birds!! Take care!
Thank you for sharing, Lou😊
Is it safe to put a 8-12” starter fig in the ground now? Just got them and I transplanted them into 4” terra cotta pots. (Violette de Bordeaux and Lattarula-Italian Honey fig). North Carolina Piedmont zone 8a.
@debbies2966 Hi Debbie! That one is a flip of a coin. Lol! Well, in your zone, I think that it can work for you, but if it's not at all inconvenient to overwinter your tree I'd probably wait until it's a little more established and plant it in the ground next spring. Good luck! Lou Monti
We won´t tell her ^^
My 2nd year Figoin is dropping all the fruit it set. It isn't happy, working on figuring out why. It's painful to watch
I got first dibs on the fig trees 😊😂
Hi Lou , wondering if you ever used sulfur spray for Fig mites and Mosaic and if so did it work? Thank you
@@petarbubalo231 Hi there! No, I have not. Thanks for watching. Lou Monti
Baby Cardinals kept pecking my tiny unripe figs so I covered my trees in mosquito nets.
I have a nice container Florea would you like to trade for a Peter's Honey?
What's your location and garden zone? I've got 9 potted figs, 1st year, and am air layering a few. I'm trying to figure out if I can successfully plant figs in the ground, zone 8a Central Arkansas. Advice and info appreciated.
@C3Voyage Hi there! Yes, you certainly can grow Figs in the ground in your location. Good luck, Lou Monti
Stay blessed
Where did you acquire your peters honey would love it in my garden
Lou, Hello from South Florida! What are some great ones that you would recommend for down here?
Go with one or more of LSU Purple, Smith, Pastilliere (version from Raintree Nursery), JFE Black Madira Not (from Off the Beaten Path), CLBC, a Mt. Etna (RLBV, Malta Black, Takoma Violet, etc.), an Adriatic (WM#1, Adriatic JH, etc.), Black Celeste, Moro de Caneva.
Nice video as usual.... one idea for a video. You are always mentioning your son and how he takes care of and eats your figs when you are gone. You should do a video about him and call it "how to raise a figaholic son," similar to what your family did with you. 🎉
I wish you and your family health and happiness! GOD bless!
Thanks for the tour.
Is pastiliere the same as rouge de bordouex
@vtec18c Hi there! No. They are certainly very similar to one another, but they do have some rather well established differences. I have never grown Rouge, but from the information that I've been able to gather over the years, and from my friend Daniel Yakir, apparently, Rouge is a bit more of a sugary fig, and it has a deeper purple color than Pastiliere. They are on record of having different countries of origin as well, but personally, I wouldn't hold that point to havinging much significance. I believe that Rouge is considered to be a French fig and Pastiliere of Italian origin. I'm not certain, but that's my recollection. Regards from Lou Monti
@@loumonti10 thank you sir!!! I recently acquired a couple of cuttings of rogue. All I need is Peter‘s honey to complete my collection… well for now
Why don’t you make a (X ) leg to support it ?
@ThaiTong-xy1ok That's an excellent idea, and I appreciate your input very much. Unfortunately, I simply don't have much time to spare, and it would have resulted in more difficulties cutting the grass. Still, your suggestion was a good one, in deed! I did manage to tie and save the second branch of concern in the video. Therefore, I kind of feel like it was an acceptable compromise. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti
JEHOVAH ADONIS promise: Ezekiel 1:28. Genesis 9.🙏Enjoy your videos, and the knowledge of old school. Especially the ancient of olds. They KNOW! Thank You!
Oh the pain I’m feeling when you cut the persimmon tree 😢 I wonder if some of the branches can be used to graft?
I hope Debbie feels better soon. Thanks for sharing your garden with us Lou 👍
The Ronde De Bordeaux finger pattern leaves are so unique, very pretty and easy to recognize. Actually, it's the only Fig tree I can recognize. Love how healthy and promising your young trees and cutting gardens are coming along. Sorry to see all of those persimmons fruit go, but I agree, thinking of the health of the tree comes first and foremost! Thanks for sharing your lovely day with us all...very refreshing!!! Till next time!
I have a 2yo, maybe 5' tall, American persimmon that I'd like to graft on a larger variety. What's your suggestion for ease and success? thanks
So you could not have removed the fruit on the persimmon instead of the limb. That would have taken the weight off. Am I wrong?
Did you ever hear of people making a tea with the fig leaves I seen people in Sicily supposedly good for high blood pressure and for sugar

I have the volcanic rock and Azomite...I also use diamacious earth and other things...great advice.
What kind of mulch do you put at the base of your fig trees?
Absolutely love the chimes! …and your channel. Its actually very relaxing!
Hello, Beautiful fig trees. I live in AZ and am just starting. Can you please send me some cuttings of the different figs trees?
Good day, have you ever employed the use of soil sensors to wirelessly monitor soil temperatures and moisture levels near your fig trees?
How much do you expect for the cutting to grow in one season?
@vtec18c Hi there. Generally, I only expect that a first year cutting will develop a good (sufficient) root system and become a fairly well established, very small, healthy tree. If such a cutting is well cared for and over wintered, its second season of growth can be expected to be much more substantial. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti
@@loumonti10 thank you sir for all your great wisdom. I love watching all of your videos.
do they need all those fertilizers you showed ? I have a potted fig tree i about a foot and a half
Hi Lou, I'm a new fig grower, I always watch your videos and try to follow your advises. I have an issue with my Dalmatie potted fig tree. It is only 2 years old but I had a decent breba fig this year, then all of my main crop figs are not ripening well. I mean, they looked wonderful then they start to swell and become very soft and spongy mainly on the eye-end but then they drop and they are still white inside with some brownish color near the eye.. what do you think the problem could be? Any idea? Thanks!
@italianbusker3329 Hi there! I don't know. It could be a variety of things, and I'd have to know a great many more things in order to give you a reliable diagnosis. I would certainly investigate and confirm the proper identification of your tree and look closely into the issue of Caprification! Good luck and thanks for watching. Lou Monti
Great video lou , is there any way of telling just how much and how often to water ? I hate those dam squirrels!
@roccoconte2960 Hi Rocco! Thanks for watching! Well, as a grower yourself, I'm sure that you've developed a second sense with regard to evaluating proper watering. Still, even for experienced growers, it's not unusual to lose track of certain trees & plants and sometimes under or over water them. It's very important to try and concentrate on the watering process. I have a rain gauge, and I often write notes and record how much rainfall there has been, when it rained, and every time that I water my trees, as well. With my container plants, I constantly monitor them and personally lift them up a bit off the ground so that I can accurately determine whether they need water or not. I try to let them dry out sufficiently between waterings so that they aren't subjected to root rot and other diseases associated with over watering. I'm constantly mindful of the harmful effects of under watering, too! The monumental importance of proper watering is absolutely imperative for successful gardening, and this is one thing about which I am absolutely certain!!! Regards! Lou Monti
The sound of the bee's is very satisfying.
What is your hardiness zone or area where you live? I live in Philly sea and have Peter’s Honey in the pot.
